The Smokeless Society...
UNLIKE ANY OTHER SOCIETY
7 Billion Members And Counting !
The Smokeless Society is unlike any other Society - because you cannot buy membership of the Smokeless Society.
This is because you already belong to the Smokeless Society !
You were awarded lifetime membership on the day that you were born !
Many members recall, or at least understand, that they were not born with a cigarette in their hand ?
And members of the Smokeless Society are, quite simply, not allowed to resign their membership !
Membership of the Smokeless Society is not at all demanding. There is just one 'Code' that all members of the
Smokeless Society are expected to observe:
"Don't smoke"
"Don't smoke in public"
"Don't encourage others to smoke"
This is because the majority of members of the Smokeless Society consider smoking to be a very dangerous
activity - the nicotine in cigarette smoke and fumes is generally considered to be highly addictive and the
likeliehood of long term harmful health consequences of exposure to cigarette smoke and fumes are proven; with many
cigarette smokers experiencing a horrible early death as a result of their addiction.
In fact the very act of smoking in public:
1. Encourages some children and young people to believe that inhaling noxious chemicals is a perfectly normal
and natural thing to do - sending out conflicting messages that undermine their school based anti-drugs
education.
2. Encourages some children and young people into a lifetime of nicotine addiction, potentially leading them on
to substance abuse, solvent abuse, and harder drugs, and possibly crime to support their various addictions -
harming their health and destroying both their lives and the lives of those who care for them.
3. Subjects other people, who do value their health, to the smell and to having to passively breathe the
smoker's secondhand smoke and fumes, together with its unknown mixture of noxious, unhealthy, harmful and deadly
chemicals.
The Smokeless Society understands that whilst the overwhelming majority of its approximately 7 billion global
membership base do adhere to the code of the Smokeless Society, some members are known to have an occasional lapse,
in private, from time to time...
However the Smokeless Society is very tolerant - and as long as such lapses are committed in private, and out of
sight of others, then why not ? After all, it's their own life that they're endangering, and it's a free
country...
So, many members of the Smokeless Society are far more concerned about the effect of smoking in the company of
other people, in the public eye. And they are concerned about the harmful effect that public smoking will have on
the health of non-smokers, from being forced to passively breathe the secondhand smoke and fumes. And they are also
very concerned about smoking in public increasing the normalcy and acceptability of smoking; thereby encouraging
and recruiting new smokers, particularly children and young people.
Electronic Cigarettes
Many members and supporters of the Smokeless Society are now very concerned that 'electronic cigarettes' have
now been developed. These devices look like cigarettes and typically use a battery to vaporise a solution of
propylene glycol (typically), nicotine, and flavorings into fumes/smoke that the smoker inhales to obtain a similar
'hit' of the highly addictive drug, nicotine; all in a manner that completely replicates the smoking of a tobacco
cigarette.
Due to a legislative loophole electronic cigarettes fall outside of the regulations and restrictions that are in
effect for tobacco cigarettes.
Electronic cigarettes:
1. Have no age restrictions in place on who can buy them - legally, they may be bought by children.
2. Are not subject to the same restrictions as tobacco cigarettes, regarding their marketing, advertising, and
promotion.
3. Are not taxed in the same way as other tobacco products - so are much more affordable than tobacco cigarettes
and may be bought by children at untaxed pocket-money prices.
4. Are not subject to the public smoking restrictions of the smokefree legislation that was introduced, in the
UK, in July 2007.
So electronic cigarettes may be marketed and sold by anyone, and may be bought by anyone, and, legally, may be
smoked indoors in public places; such as cinemas, clubs, shops, pubs, restaurants etc. - Completely undermining the
Smokeless Society's code of:
"Don't smoke"
"Don't smoke in public"
"Don't encourage others to smoke"
And many supporters of the Smokeless Society believe that the smoking of electronic cigarettes in public
will:
1. Completely undo the benefits that everyone in the Smokeless Society, smokers and non-smokers alike, have
enjoyed since the 2007 ban on smoking tobacco in public places.
2. Encourage children and young people into a lifetime of nicotine addiction, potentially leading them on to
tobacco smoking, substance abuse, solvent abuse, and harder drugs, and possibly crime, to support their various
addictions - harming their health and destroying both their lives and the lives of those who care for them.
This website lists some things that you can do to show your support for the non-public smoking lifestyle that
many members of the Smokeless Society have enjoyed since the smoking ban was introduced in 2007.
If you are concerned about this latest development by the Nicotine Industry, just register on this website as a supporter of the Smokeless
Society, sign the government e-Petition, and ask your friends to do the same.
Thank you.
